Australian Women in Agriculture 2020 Australia Day Accolades
A number of Australian Women in Agriculture members and associates have been honoured for their service to agriculture, community and leadership in the 2020 Australia Day Awards.
Thank you to Australian Women in Agriculture Life Member, Elaine Paton AO for compiling the list of those women, associated with AWiA whom have been honoured:
- AWiA members Georgie Somerset AM (Qld), Alana Johnson AM (Vic) and Yvonne Jennings OAM (Vic.)
- Women who are associated with AWiA and are important to our story including Dr Anne Astin AM (Vic), Jenny Mitchell OAM (Vic) and Lexie Young OAM (Tasmania).
We congratulate these women and the many others recognised for their contribution to Australia and our rural communities.

On 26 January 2020, the Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), announced 1099 awards in the 2020 Australia Day Honours List.
Included in the list are:
- 837 recipients of awards in the General Division of the Order of Australia (5 AC, 59 AO, 224 AM and 549 OAM)
- 26 recipients of awards in the Military Division of the Order of Australia (1 AO, 13 AM and 12 OAM); and
- 236 meritorious awards.
The List includes the highest ever percentage of women recipients in the General Division of the Order of Australia – 41.6 per cent.
