Cathy Reade, Director of Outreach, The Crawford Fund
Cathy Reade is the Director of Outreach at the Crawford Fund. She spent her early career working for a range of Canberra-based lobby groups. In 1989 she started working with Emeritus Prof Derek Tribe establishing the public awareness program for the Crawford Fund, and had a consultancy concentrating in the not-for-profit sector around agriculture, development and/or aid, S&T and environment policy, issues and events.
Cathy now manages the Fund’s public affairs and some fundraising activities; is director for their annual conferences; developed and manages the Crawford Fund Master Class in Communications for scientists in developing countries, and is passionate and active in the Fund’s work to encourage young Australians in their study, careers and volunteering for food security, through its scholar, mentoring and travel awards programs. Cathy is managing the new component of the Fund’s NextGen program to add a focus around study and career pathways to agriculture for development with those already engaged in encouraging young Australians into agriculture. Cathy is on the Board and Executive Committee of the World Vegetable Centre, and chairs their Nominations Committee.
